Jodhpur Introduction :- |
Famous for its magnificent forts and palaces, Jodhpur is the second largest
city of Rajasthan and a major tourist attraction in the country. The city is
situated at the edge of the Thar Desert with Jaisalmer on its west, Barmar,
Jalor and Pali on its south, Bikaner on its north, and Nagaur on the eastern
side. The city dominated by the massive Mehrangarh fort on a rocky hill is
charming with its wealth of historic attractions and colourful markets which
specialises in antiques. It is still one of the leading centres of wool,
cattle, camels and salt. |

Mehrangarh Fort
The fort provides what must be the most authentic surviving
taste of the ceaseless round of war, honour, extravagance that
characterized Rajputana. It houses a fantastic collection of the
trappings of Indian royalty, including an amazing collection of
elephant howdahs, miniature paintings, folk music instruments,
furniture and costumes. Inside the fort, there is a whole series of
court yards and palaces such as Suraj Pole, Meherangarh Museum,
Jhanki Mahal, Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal.
Umaid Bhawan Palace
Umaid Bhawan is popularly called Chittar Palace by the local
public, the foundation of this grand piece of architecture was laid
on 1929 by Maharaja Umed Singh. It is made on the Chittar Hills in
South Eastern direction of the City. Now it has been divided into 3
functional parts, one having a five-star hotel, one is the residence
of the royal family and one has been opened for public where a few
pictures, arms, swords, and other things used by the royalties have
been exhibited.
Old Fort Museum
This fascinating museum has palanquins, lavishly upholstered
royal howdahs, a golden throne, shoes with pearls, paintings,
mirrors, cribs weapons and a magnificently embroidered royal tent
among its exhibits. |

How to Reach There :- |
Air : Indian Airlines operates flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Udaipur
and Jaipur.
Road : RSTC buses and private luxury buses connect Jodhpur with a bunch
of places around Rajasthan. Jodhpur is well connected with Delhi, Udaipur
and Jaipur.
Rail : Jodhpur is connected by rail with Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and
Lucknow. |
